Matthew Bonas

Yoga Teacher (E-RYT-500), Director MBYI

I was introduced to yoga in 2005 when I experienced my first yoga class. I started attending classes regularly which led to a deep appreciation for the physical practice.  I was motivated to explore yoga teacher training to learn more about the yogic science, including asana, meditation, yoga philosophy, and pranayama. I made two visits to India, first studying hatha yoga in Goa in 2012 and again in Rishikesh in 2016 completing my 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Chandra Yoga International.

As my personal yoga practice evolved I also gained a love for yin yoga. In 2017 I was thrilled to learn from Bernie Clark, one of the world's foremost authorities in yin yoga, completing a 50-hour yin yoga intensive teacher training course.

I currently teach yoga in Toronto, Ontario and have extensive experience leading vinyasa flow and yin yoga classes, acro yoga, and handstand workshops. I am also a certified Anti-Gravity Yoga instructor. My love for travel and adventure led me to also teach yoga in Panama, Costa Rica, Hawaii, British Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and India.

 

Stepping out of my comfort zone and in front of a camera, I had the honour of being featured in the New York Times Best Seller 2,100 Asanas, The Complete Yoga Poses.

The words "Live Now" are a reminder to both be present and to live life to the fullest. This concept became an important consideration in my life when illness caused me to contemplate the reality that tomorrow isn't promised.

 

Live Now Yoga Retreats was born out of my desire to live with intention, travel the world, experience new cultures, and practice yoga. It is my dream, passion, and privilege to share these experiences with you!
